now she's confused

after standing around all lonely and unloved, she has now been ridden 3 times in 3 days (i kid you not). We are still taking it easy (it takes your backside a while to get used to the "pain" again) but i bet you she is now well and truly confused or at least she will be tomorrow when she sits idle again in the garage.

today i had a few hours off this afternoon and i did an hour ride around the river and ended up a brewha for some lunch and a coffee.

it is winter, but this is what Perth's winter has looked like so far (i am not mucking around). Temperature was in low 20s but there wasnt much wind around.

spot the clouds

i need to make the most of the next 3 months because i am not sure i will be taking such wonderful photos when we go to London

didnt "she" get a surprise

I am home alone (nearly) for the weekend so after a sleep in this morning i got up and went and grabbed a late breakfast. i got home around lunchtime and as i drove in the drive i saw her standing there all forlorn and a bit deflated. i realised i had nothing better to do, so i pumped up her cute red tyres and went and got changed.

we went for a nice gentle ride (as neither of us had done any exercise since february) around the river and into the city. I spent a couple of hours at work and then i brought her home.

she is now back leaning up against the wall, but i bet she was as surprised as i was with her little adventure.

first dedicated bike ride for 2009

today i had a couple of hours to spare after attending a corporate lunch function so i got on my bike. I rode for just over 1:10 mins and covered 29km. Wasnt a bad first effort really - my casual job has definitely helped with my overall fitness. heart rate averate was 141 and the legs felt good.

there was a bit of breeze around but i rode into it first and then rode with it on the way back.

it was good to get out and turn the legs over. the weather was warm but not too hot and the sky was clear. the river looked great (as it usually does).

if i get a few more rides in over the next few weeks i might just line up for the freeway bike hike

riding still a mystery to me

i havent ridden my bike seriously now since early December 2008, but recently i have ridden it to and from my "casual" job. although it has not been far (~5km each way) i have actually enjoyed it.

the job i have is quite physical (for 4-6 hours at a time) so my overall fitness has improved quite a lot since early december and i find i am quite fit and strong on these short legs.

when the time is right i will get back into riding the bike seriously (200+km/week) but at the moment life is just getting in the way

end of 2008

well i guess 2008 did not go exactly as planned from a cycling perspective. in the end i did way less kms than i hoped/dreamed.

the start of 2009 is not much better. i am not setting any big targets, but at the moment i am unable to ride because i have strained my back. also real life is getting in the way.

one day i might just scare the S... out of the bike and ride it again. till then it is safely locked up in the garage.

god it's a slog

went for a ride this morning - first since great perth bike ride. i am finding it a real slog to get on the bike. my bum hurts, i am unfit (from lack of riding) and i ride at my max just getting the pedals to move.

rode 30km today (24:6) with a stop at brewha in the middle. did a simple loop from home to burswood, around the river to UWA and then up to Subi. Coming home i head down to the railway bike path, go to leederville and then ride up Oxford St to mount hawthorn.

while it wasnt too hot today there was a slight breeze blowing (and i mean slight) but even that was giving me the S...s.

I have now covered 3715km.

on the brighter side of life i was able to go for a ride, to see the river and to enjoy the city and kings park when others are unable to do this for various reasons (work, at war, laid up) so i really should not winge too much

great bike ride

i got up early this morning (unusual for me to see sunday at 6.30 am) to join in the Great Bike Ride.

I did the 53km event (1 lap of the river) and managed to complete it in 1:52 (average 27.5km/h). It was a nice morning for it really with no rain, although it was forecast, and little wind. In addition, i rode an extra 10 km getting to and from the event.

there were thousands of people riding which was good as it was a fund raiser.

i really am not bike fit, because it was a real slog in places. i struggled up Heart Attack Hill (just like everyone else) and managed to ride up it, but i thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest. I hate to imagine what the hr was (over 180 for sure).

thank you to all the organisers and volunteers for a great event. Well done to all.

I have now done 3685km. still a chance to get to 4000 before year end
