life's a beach

had a few spare hours today and the weather was fantastic = too good not to ride. I went down to the beach and rode along the bike path from just south of Scarborough (near hale road) to Hillary's boat harbour. Stopped briefly to take some photos of the sand and the sea for a friend who cant be near the beach everyday.

On the way back i road back along the coast on the road (pretty tight) until i got to North Beach Rd and then i cut inland until i got to Erindale Road. There is a good bike lane along most of this road, but as usual some Road Planner drops the path just where it is most dangerous, going through the freeway interchange area. Riding along Erindale Road is interesting but i was only on if for a KM or 2 until i cut into the back roads in the Stirling area. in the end i came out on Karrinyup Road and then along Main Street until i got to Scarborough Beach Road and home.

While i try to avoid riding on the road sometimes you just cant. I rarely feel in danger but you do get the odd idiot out and about. I only had one today, a young smart arse trying to impress his girlfriend driving a 4WD who got way to close and tooted his horn right on top of me. He got the finger - small consolation.

the photos:

Scarborough Beach Area - this is one of the few places along the coast where people have been able to build on the beach side of the main road.

Hillary's Boat Harbour - great little kids beach and marina area. Took me about an hour to ride up here from home. Only took me 50 mins to get home

lokking at Hillary's from about 2km away

Overall i covered 42 km in total. Rode first half at 24.5 km/h and second at 28.5km/h. I have now done 3187km
